Customs and Border Patrol officials said the program Gov. Rick Perry pointed to during his Midland visit as evidence the federal government is trying to punish Texas is an effective way to deport illegal Mexican immigrants. "This is something we know how to do," said a spokesman for the Marfa Sector Customs and Border Patrol Bill Brooks. Cheese prices are strengthening again. The bock price closed Sept. 18 at $1.33 per pound, up 6 cents on the week but still 62 1/2-cents below that week a year ago. Barrel closed Friday at $1.29, up 4 cents on the week, but 64 1/4 below a year ago.

Efforts to make getting over two of the Delaware River Port Authority's four bridges into Pennsylvania faster took a first step Wednesday as more than $350,000 in funds were allocated by the authority's board to bring Express E-ZPass to the Betsy Ross Bridge. A U.S. Border Patrol agent used pepper spray Thursday to capture an illegal immigrant wanted on a federal warrant in Amarillo. Spokesman Bill Brooks said the agent, whose name was not released, stopped a van about 11 a.m. on Interstate 40 near the Airport Boulevard exit. The man, whose name was not released, fled on foot west toward Third Avenue.

Clay County Elections Board Chairman Bill Brooks signs off on the results of the Aug. 18 alcohol referendum, certifying the election results and making the passage of alcohol sales official. The canvass took place at the Elections Board office Tuesday. It was approved in a 4-1 vote, with Supervisor Robert Balogh casting the dissenting vote. The energy-generating wind turbines, which have been credited with being an eco-friendly way to save on energy bills, would be allowed for non-commercial use. They have to be a minimum of 30 feet higher than surrounding structures and limited to a maximum height of 100 feet, among other restrictions.
